Random Hold was a band that was formed by two friends, David Ferguson and David Rhodes in 1976 following a concert by Phil Manzanera's band 801.
The band went through a number of line up changes but
#eventually won a record deal with Polydor records and
released their debut album produced by Van Der Graaf
Generator's Peter Hammill. The band also managed to
secure the support slot on Peter Gabriel's 1980 tour when
the singer toured the UK and America.
Following the release of a number of singles and the one
official Peter Hammill produced album Random Hold
continued to record and prepare for more releases. These
recordings however were not released until much later and
the band had folded. The next project for David Ferguson
was the band Nine Ways To Win who secured a recording
contract with Atlantic records and released one album in
1983.
Differing Views is a double album including many previously
unavailable tracks now contained in one package including
a number of tracks from the Nine Ways To Win album
including Painting Over Cracks, All Sit Down and Second
Cross On The Hill. Also included are demos for Painting
Over Cracks and Second Cross On The Hill.
For long time fans of Random Hold however the real find
will be the bonus track on disc two which features a video
MPEG of the band performing live at the Theatre Royal
Drury Lane on their first tour.
